Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the redeveloped Rayanapadu and Mangalagiri railway stations in Andhra Pradesh on July 17 under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). The upgraded stations are part of the Centre’s nationwide initiative to modernise railway infrastructure by enhancing passenger amenities, accessibility and station aesthetics.
The Rayanapadu railway station, located near Vijayawada, has been redeveloped at an estimated cost of ₹12 crore. Designed with architectural elements inspired by the region’s renowned Kondapalli toys, the station features a modern façade, upgraded waiting areas, improved circulating spaces, modular toilets, enhanced passenger facilities and better platform infrastructure. Strategically positioned on the busy New Delhi–Chennai rail corridor, Rayanapadu is also being developed as a satellite station to ease congestion at Vijayawada Junction and improve operational efficiency.
The Mangalagiri railway station, situated in Guntur district, has also undergone extensive modernisation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The redevelopment includes upgraded passenger amenities, improved station access, enhanced lighting, better waiting halls, modern signage and landscaping aimed at providing a safer and more comfortable travel experience. The station is expected to serve the growing population of the Amaravati capital region while strengthening rail connectivity in central Andhra Pradesh.
The inauguration forms part of the Government of India’s broader programme to redevelop railway stations across the country under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which focuses on creating modern, passenger-friendly transport hubs equipped with improved facilities, seamless accessibility and sustainable infrastructure. Andhra Pradesh has several stations included under the scheme, reflecting the Centre’s continued investment in strengthening the state’s railway network.
The redeveloped Rayanapadu and Mangalagiri stations are expected to improve passenger convenience, enhance operational efficiency and support regional economic growth by providing better connectivity to major urban centres and emerging development corridors. Their inauguration marks another milestone in Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to modernise rail infrastructure and deliver world-class passenger services across the country.
