Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate two new corridors of the Delhi Metro and lay the foundation stone for three additional metro routes on March 8, marking a significant expansion of the capital’s urban transit network. The combined investment for these metro projects is estimated at over ₹18,300 crore, aimed at improving connectivity and strengthening public transportation across the city.

During the programme, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur corridor of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park extension of the Magenta Line. The Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur stretch spans around 12.3 km and includes multiple elevated stations, linking northern and eastern parts of Delhi while expanding the Pink Line network.

With the addition of this section, the Pink Line will extend to about 71.56 km, transforming it into the country’s first fully operational “Ring Metro”, enabling passengers to travel across large parts of the city without needing to pass through central interchange hubs. The corridor also features advanced infrastructure elements such as a bridge across the Yamuna and a double-decker viaduct carrying both a metro line and a road flyover.

The second project being inaugurated is the 9.92 km Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park section of the Magenta Line. This elevated corridor will include several new stations and will improve metro access for residents in north-west Delhi, including Pitampura and surrounding neighbourhoods. Parts of the alignment reach heights of around 28 metres, making it one of the highest elevated sections in the Delhi Metro network.

In addition to these inaugurations, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for three new corridors under Phase V(A) of the Delhi Metro project. These upcoming routes are expected to further extend the network and enhance connectivity between key areas of the city and the National Capital Region.

The expansion is expected to reduce traffic congestion, improve commuter mobility and strengthen sustainable urban transport in Delhi. Once completed, the new corridors will provide faster travel options, encourage greater use of public transport, and support the capital’s growing population and mobility needs.
