Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates final stretch of Ahmedabad Metro Phase II connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the last section of Ahmedabad Metro Phase II, completing seamless metro connectivity between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the remaining section of Phase II of the Ahmedabad Metro, marking the completion of the metro connection between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar and significantly strengthening urban mobility in Gujarat.

During the evening event in Gandhinagar, Mr. Modi formally started metro services on the newly opened segment by flagging off a train from the Mahatma Mandir Metro Station. The occasion was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, underscoring central-state cooperation on infrastructure delivery.

The newly operational stretch runs from Sector 10A in Gandhinagar to the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre, passing through strategic points such as the Sachivalaya complex, Akshardham Temple area, Old Secretariat, Sector 16 and Sector 24, enhancing the accessibility of key civic, cultural and residential hubs.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister highlighted that the expanded metro service will significantly enhance ‘ease of living’ for residents, offering faster, reliable and modern public transport between the state capital and its commercial neighbour. The full Phase II link allows commuters to travel seamlessly on a robust metro network that now connects major urban centres.

Officials noted that with the inauguration of this final stretch, the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro now provides uninterrupted rail connectivity over its planned 28-plus-kilometre alignment under Phase II, complementing earlier sections inaugurated last year. The extension is expected to reduce traffic congestion, cut travel times and support sustainable urban growth in the region.

After the ceremony, Mr. Patel and his deputy travelled on the metro service to Sachivalaya, interacting with commuters and underscoring the project’s operational readiness and public acceptance.

The inauguration of the final segment of Phase II is part of broader efforts to expand metro rail infrastructure across Indian cities, bolstering economic activity, improving connectivity and reinforcing urban development goals.
