A landmark moment for Mumbai! PM Narendra Modi inaugurates the final phase of Metro Line 3 (Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ), India’s first fully underground metro, transforming daily commutes and reducing congestion across the city.

Mumbai witnessed a major boost to its urban transport network as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the final phase of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ corridor), marking the completion of one of the city’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. The fully operational underground metro line is expected to significantly ease congestion on Mumbai’s roads and suburban railways while improving daily commuting efficiency across the financial capital.

The newly launched section connects critical areas including Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Domestic and International Airport Terminals, and SEEPZ, completing the 33.5-kilometre-long corridor that links South Mumbai’s Colaba to North Mumbai’s bustling business and residential zones. With this final phase, all 27 stations of Line 3 are now open to the public, offering seamless and high-speed connectivity across the city.

The metro line will operate daily from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM, with trains running at intervals of approximately five minutes during peak hours. Fares have been designed to remain commuter-friendly, ranging between ₹10 and ₹60 depending on the distance travelled. The line is also fully air-conditioned and features modern amenities such as platform screen doors, CCTV surveillance, and digital passenger information systems.

Built with advanced tunnelling technology, Mumbai Metro Line 3 is India’s first fully underground metro corridor, passing beneath key landmarks like the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and Marine Drive. It is expected to reduce travel time between Colaba and SEEPZ from over two hours to just about 50 minutes, while cutting vehicular pollution and fuel consumption across the city.

Authorities have also integrated the metro with major transport hubs including railway stations and bus terminals to enhance last-mile connectivity. With this milestone, Mumbai takes another decisive step toward a sustainable, efficient, and modern public transport future.
