The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme has reached a major financial milestone, with total disbursements now crossing ₹3.88 lakh crore since its launch. Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 21st instalment of the scheme, amounting to ₹18,000 crore, providing direct income support to millions of farmers across the country.
The latest instalment was transferred to beneficiaries during a public event, reinforcing the government’s continued focus on supporting small and marginal farmers. Under PM-KISAN, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 annually in three equal instalments, directly credited to their bank accounts to help meet agricultural and household expenses.
Since its inception in 2019, the scheme has aimed to strengthen rural livelihoods, enhance financial stability in the farming community, and ensure timely assistance for crop-related needs. The cumulative transfer of ₹3.88 lakh crore highlights the scale of the programme and its significance in India’s agricultural support ecosystem.
Government officials noted that the digital, Aadhaar-enabled transfer mechanism has ensured transparency and efficient delivery, reducing delays and eliminating middlemen. The 21st instalment continues to expand the scheme’s outreach, benefiting millions of families across states ahead of the upcoming cropping season.
The PM-KISAN initiative remains one of India’s largest income support programmes for farmers, helping to reinforce rural resilience, boost agricultural productivity, and provide a steady financial safety net to those dependent on farming for their livelihood.
