The Prime Minister’s GatiShakti National Master Plan’s network planning committee has reviewed a total of 352 infrastructure projects with a combined estimated cost of ₹16.10 lakh crore, as part of ongoing efforts to streamline planning and execution of multi-modal connectivity projects across the country.
The evaluations were conducted under the umbrella of the GatiShakti Network Planning Group, which brings together ministries, states and key infrastructure implementing agencies to ensure better coordination, optimisation of resources and reduction of project implementation delays. The assessment process aims to align project plans with the government’s broader infrastructure vision, strengthen logistics efficiency, and enhance connectivity across sectors such as roads, railways, ports and urban infrastructure.
Officials involved in the process said the group examined project details including timelines, land requirements, technical clearances, financing structures and potential bottlenecks. The recommendations emerging from the reviews are expected to help accelerate implementation by enabling agencies to resolve inter-departmental issues, integrate technological and engineering inputs early in planning, and adopt best practices in execution.
The GatiShakti framework is designed to encourage holistic and integrated infrastructure planning, promoting efficient movement of goods and people while reducing costs and improving delivery timelines. By institutionalising collaborative project reviews, the planning group contributes to more effective alignment of central and state infrastructure initiatives, fostering synergy across various development programmes.
The reviewed projects span a wide range of sectors and geographies, covering national highways, port connectivity works, rail network expansions, logistics hubs, urban transit schemes and strategic economic corridors. Several of the evaluated projects are expected to be critical in improving last-mile connectivity, reducing logistics bottlenecks and supporting economic growth in under-served regions.
The network planning group’s evaluations are part of the regular monitoring mechanism under the GatiShakti framework, which aims to facilitate faster decision-making through data-driven insights and cross-sector coordination. These reviews also help identify financing options, promote efficient land use planning and optimise inter-agency collaboration.
With infrastructure development continuing to be a priority for economic progress, the evaluations and subsequent action plans emerging from the planning group are expected to play a vital role in ensuring timely and cost-effective project execution while unlocking growth potential across multiple sectors.
