Patel Engineering secures ₹798.19 crore SECL-backed contracts for excavation, overburden removal, coal cutting, and transportation works at the Jhiria West Opencast Project in Chhattisgarh.

Patel Engineering Limited has received two Letters of Intent from Saidax Engineers and Infrastructures Pvt Ltd for undertaking extensive mining-related operations at the Jhiria West Opencast Project (OCP) located in the Hasdeo Area of Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. The work has been awarded under South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), and the combined value of the two contracts stands at ₹798.19 crore.

Under the newly awarded scope, Patel Engineering will carry out a wide range of activities including composite overburden removal, rehandling operations, coal cutting through surface miners, as well as loading and transportation of coal from the project site. The assignment also encompasses the deployment of requisite heavy machinery, its ongoing maintenance, uninterrupted diesel supply, and the provision of skilled workforce needed to execute the project efficiently.

Commenting on the development, Managing Director Kavita Shirvaikar said the new orders align with the company’s expertise in handling large-scale infrastructure and mining works. She added that these contracts strengthen Patel Engineering’s operational pipeline and open up fresh avenues for growth. According to her, the company already has a robust tender pipeline valued at more than ₹34,000 crore that has been bid for and is currently under evaluation. In addition, further opportunities worth around ₹18,000 crore are expected to be floated for bidding before the close of the financial year.

Shirvaikar further noted that over the next one to two years, nearly ₹1 lakh crore worth of projects in the company’s core areas of operation are anticipated to be offered for bidding. With these upcoming prospects and the newly secured SECL-related works, Patel Engineering remains confident that its order book will witness substantial expansion in the coming year and beyond.
