Odisha has initiated a major road infrastructure expansion programme worth ₹12,102 crore following the completion of road and bridge projects valued at ₹1,721 crore across the state.
The announcement was made during a review of infrastructure development initiatives, where the state government highlighted its continued focus on strengthening connectivity, improving transportation networks, and supporting economic growth through large-scale road investments.
According to officials, the newly approved road development plan includes the construction, widening, strengthening, and upgrading of state highways, major district roads, bridges, and other critical transport infrastructure across multiple regions of Odisha.
The programme is aimed at improving connectivity between urban centres, industrial hubs, ports, mining regions, and rural areas while enhancing the efficiency of freight and passenger movement throughout the state.
Officials stated that the projects will play a crucial role in supporting industrial development, tourism growth, agricultural logistics, and regional economic integration. Improved road infrastructure is also expected to reduce travel time, lower transportation costs, and enhance road safety.
The announcement comes after the successful completion of infrastructure projects worth ₹1,721 crore, which included road upgrades, bridge construction, and connectivity improvements in various districts.
The state government has identified transport infrastructure as a key driver of economic development and has been accelerating investments in highways, industrial corridors, logistics facilities, urban mobility projects, and rural connectivity initiatives.
Officials noted that the new projects will be implemented in phases, with priority given to strategic corridors that support industrial activity, mining operations, tourism destinations, and high-traffic routes.
