Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for a wide range of infrastructure and public development projects worth ₹948 crore in Sambalpur district, marking a significant push toward urban mobility, road connectivity, and social infrastructure in western Odisha.

A key highlight of the programme was the launch of 25 electric buses for Sambalpur’s city transport system. The Chief Minister announced that an additional 25 e-buses will be introduced shortly, taking the total fleet strength to 50 electric buses. These buses are aimed at promoting clean mobility, reducing urban pollution, and improving last-mile connectivity for residents.

Majhi also inaugurated a new integrated bus terminal at Ainthapali, designed to modernise public transport infrastructure in the region. A long-term provision of ₹238.14 crore has been allocated for the operation and maintenance of the electric buses and terminal facilities over the next 10 years, ensuring sustained service quality and system reliability.

The development package includes several major road and highway projects to improve regional connectivity. These comprise the Burla Ring Road, Hirakud Ring Road, the Mundghat–Chaurpur road, the Remed–Hirakud four-lane corridor, and the widening of the Bhojpur–Jamankira road. Together, these projects are expected to ease traffic congestion, improve logistics movement, and support industrial and tourism growth around the Hirakud region.

In addition to transport infrastructure, the Chief Minister laid foundation stones for projects under the Hirakud Dam master plan, aimed at enhancing surrounding civic amenities and visitor infrastructure. He also inaugurated development works for the Cordola Handloom Village, supporting traditional artisans and strengthening local livelihoods.

The programme further included the inauguration of girls’ hostels under the Adarsha Vidyalaya scheme, along with new warehouse facilities to improve agricultural storage and support efficient paddy procurement in the district.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s focus on balanced regional development, emphasising investments in clean mobility, road infrastructure, education, and rural economy as key pillars of Odisha’s growth strategy.
