Nitin Gadkari announces imminent opening of Delhi Dehradun Expressway reducing travel time to two hours
Delhi–Dehradun Expressway to open soon, cutting travel time to just two hours and boosting regional connectivity.

The much-anticipated Delhi–Dehradun Expressway is expected to open to traffic within the next 10 to 15 days, significantly improving connectivity between the national capital and Uttarakhand. The announcement was made by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, who said the project is nearing completion and final preparations are underway for its opening.

Once operational, the six-lane, access-controlled expressway will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from over six hours to around two hours, offering a faster and smoother driving experience for commuters and travellers. The expressway has been developed at an estimated cost of about ₹12,000 crore.

Spanning approximately 212 kilometres, the corridor connects Delhi with Dehradun via key districts in western Uttar Pradesh, including Baghpat, Shamli and Saharanpur. The project incorporates several advanced engineering features such as elevated stretches, multiple bridges, service roads and dedicated wildlife crossings to ensure safety and environmental protection along the route.

The expressway is expected to provide a major boost to tourism, trade and regional development across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Improved road connectivity is also likely to ease traffic congestion on existing highways while supporting faster movement of goods and people.

The opening of the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway marks another significant step in the expansion of India’s high-speed road infrastructure, aimed at enhancing mobility, reducing travel time and strengthening economic linkages between key regions.
