The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has accelerated planning for the next phase of the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) by moving ahead with Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for several proposed high-speed corridors across the National Capital Region (NCR). The initiative is aimed at expanding the regional rapid transit network beyond the operational Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut corridor and strengthening inter-city connectivity.
Among the corridors under various stages of DPR preparation are the Delhi–Karnal, Delhi–Bawal, Bawal–Behror and Ghaziabad–Noida International Airport routes. In addition, DPRs are also progressing for proposed links connecting Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida and Greater Noida, which are expected to improve east-west connectivity across the NCR.
The DPRs will assess key project parameters, including alignment options, station locations, engineering feasibility, traffic projections, environmental impact, land requirements and cost estimates. Once completed, the reports will be examined by the concerned state governments and the Central Government before any decision on project approval and implementation is taken.
The expansion forms part of the NCR’s long-term regional mobility plan, which envisages a network of high-speed commuter rail corridors connecting major urban, industrial and economic centres. The proposed RRTS corridors are expected to reduce travel time, improve multimodal integration and support sustainable urban development across the region.
