Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), supported by the Adani Group, has recorded a strong start to commercial operations by surpassing the milestone of handling over one lakh passengers within just 19 days of launch.
Since the commencement of commercial passenger services on 25 December, the airport has processed a total of 1,09,917 passengers as of 12 January, comprising 55,934 arrivals and 53,983 departures. The figures reflect robust early adoption and growing travel demand from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and surrounding areas.
10 January marked the busiest day at the airport so far, with 7,345 passengers travelling through the facility in a single day. During the initial operational period, NMIA handled 734 air traffic movements, including 32 general aviation flights, demonstrating steady ramp-up across both commercial and non-scheduled operations.
Designed to cater to 20 million passengers annually in its initial phase, the airport has also shown strong operational preparedness. Between 25 December and 12 January, NMIA efficiently processed 40,260 arriving bags and 38,774 departing bags, highlighting a focus on seamless passenger handling and ground operations.
Cargo services were integrated alongside passenger operations from the outset. During the same period, the airport managed 22.21 tonnes of cargo, underlining its role as a dual-purpose aviation hub supporting both passenger movement and freight logistics.
In terms of connectivity, routes linking Delhi, Goa, and Bengaluru recorded the highest passenger volumes, indicating strong demand on key domestic sectors.
With modern infrastructure, calibrated scaling of services, and an emphasis on operational efficiency, NMIA continues to strengthen its position as a critical addition to India’s aviation ecosystem, easing congestion at existing airports while supporting long-term regional growth.
