“Today, Kamdhenu Group is more than a steel company it is a brand built on trust, strength, and emotions. For us, steel is an integral part of every home, dream, and structure built for a better tomorrow, forming a silent yet powerful part of nation-building. The deep emotional connection shapes our reputation for quality and reliability. Through products like Kamdhenu Nxt, we continuously reinforce India’s foundation, ensuring every bar carries trust alongside strength. We don’t just manufacture steel; we build trust, dreams and a stronger tomorrow.”

Kamdhenu has grown from a steel-focused business into a much broader building-materials brand, while retaining steel at the heart of its identity. When you look back at this evolution, what changes in the Indian construction market have most influenced the way Kamdhenu has built its portfolio and what opportunities are now shaping the company’s next chapter?

The biggest change we have seen in Indian construction is the shift from viewing building materials largely as commodities to recognising the importance of quality, consistency, application-specific performance and trusted brands. Construction itself is becoming more sophisticated, with high-rise buildings, metros, bridges, industrial structures, warehouses and increasingly demanding residential projects requiring materials that deliver predictable performance.

Kamdhenu’s evolution has been a catalyst as well as a response to that change. We began with steel and built our reputation around reinforcement steel, but our customers’ requirements increasingly extended beyond the rebar itself. That led us to build a broader portfolio covering structural steel, binding wire, pipes, colour-coated sheets, GC sheets and pre-engineered building solutions, among others. Today, our portfolio includes brands such as Kamdhenu Nxt, PAS 10000, Structural Steel, WIREBOND, Pipes, Colour Max and PEB solutions.

Looking ahead, we see the next opportunity in moving further up the value chain. That means premium and application-specific steel, greater product diversification, stronger quality systems, technology-led product development and deeper penetration into infrastructure and modern construction. Our ambition is not simply to sell more steel, it is to become a more comprehensive and trusted building-materials partner.

The steel requirement of modern construction is becoming more nuanced. Strength is no longer the only consideration; ductility, weldability, corrosion resistance, dimensional consistency and performance under demanding structural conditions are equally important. How is this changing the way Kamdhenu approaches product development and quality?

Indeed, the conversation around reinforcement steel has moved beyond yield strength. In a modern structure, the steel has to work as part of a system with concrete, fabrication processes and the conditions to which the structure will ultimately be exposed.

At Kamdhenu, our innovative line of products are manufactured to deliver best possible quality in terms of strength, ductility, bond, bendability, weldability, corrosion resistance and consistency. For example, Kamdhenu Nxt is a Fe 550 product with a minimum yield stress of 565 N/mm², minimum tensile strength of 610 N/mm² and minimum elongation of 14%. Its double-rib geometry is designed to improve mechanical interlock and bonding with concrete.

Quality product is the outcome of quality process. We follow a rigorous process of quality check at all stages from raw material to final product dispatch from our factories. Our focus is not just to develop stronger steel or better specification products but to develop better quality products for specific use cases of the end user.

Kamdhenu Nxt and PAS 10000 represent two rather different directions in reinforcement steel, one focused on enhanced interlock and structural performance, and the other on high-strength applications associated with 10,000-PSI concrete. What changes in construction practices do you believe these higher-performance steel solutions can enable?

While being very different products, Kamdhenu Nxt and PAS 10000 highlights the fact that reinforcement steel is becoming more application specific.

Kamdhenu Nxt delivers supreme bonding between reinforcement and concrete with its angular double-rib design. Stronger bonding is particularly relevant in applications where anchorage, load transfer and structural behaviour are critical, such as in high-rise buildings, bridges, dams and structures in seismic regions. The current Nxt specification includes Fe 550 with a minimum yield stress of 565 N/mm² and elongation of 14%.

PAS 10000, meanwhile, takes a different approach. It is a Power Alloy Steel product designed for applications involving 10,000-PSI concrete, with alloying intended to provide enhanced corrosion resistance and anti-degradation characteristics. It also incorporates a 360-degree locking technology and an innovative rib configuration for strong concrete bonding.

Higher-performance steel solutions support more efficient structural design, better utilisation of space and improved durability, particularly in demanding infrastructure and high-rise applications. However, it all depends on the complete structural design and appropriate engineering specifications with high performance steel as an enabler.

Steel is one of the most closely watched materials when construction costs are under pressure. How should developers and contractors think about the economics of reinforcement steel not simply in terms of price per tonne, but through material optimisation, structural efficiency, wastage and the long-term performance of the finished structure?

The ideal metric during construction should be cost per unit of structural performance and not cost per tonne. A lower priced bar is not necessarily the lowest-cost solution if it results in higher material consumption, greater wastage, fabrication difficulties, inconsistent dimensions, additional labour or higher maintenance over the life of the structure. Conversely, a higher-performance product can justify its premium when its properties allow the overall structural system to be designed or executed more efficiently.

Good quality products need not always be costly, Kamdhenu Nxt for example can be approximately 4% lighter than standard bars but its design and material properties are intended to deliver high strength and performance while maintaining efficient material utilisation. PAS 10000 with its alloy composition delivers improved corrosion resistance and durability while also being affordable to the buyers.

The real economics of quality steel is when we take into account the cost of completed structure, including material consumption, fabrication, wastage, labour and lifecycle performance.

Kamdhenu’s FY27 first-quarter numbers indicate continued growth in total sales under Kamdhenu brand. What are these numbers telling you about the underlying demand environment, and where do you see the next meaningful opportunity for volume and value growth?

The Q1 FY27 numbers give us confidence that demand for branded steel remains healthy and that our franchise-led model continues to provide strong reach across the market. The numbers also tells us that the underlying market continues to absorb meaningful volumes and that our versatile ecosystem allows us to participate in demand across geographies without relying exclusively on owned manufacturing capacity.

Looking ahead, the opportunity is both volume-led and value-led. On the volume side, we see room to deepen our presence in underpenetrated markets and infrastructure-led applications. On the value side, premium products such as Nxt and PAS 10000, along with structural steel and our wider building-material portfolio, give us opportunities to increase the value contribution from each customer relationship.

We have also commissioned a 5 MW captive solar power plant. While not a sales initiative, it demonstrates our focus on improving operating efficiency and building a more sustainable cost structure as the business grows.

Kamdhenu’s stated vision is to continue expanding its product portfolio and technology capabilities in the Indian market. What will the company’s growth plan for domestic market?

Our growth plan is to establish Kamdhenu as a globally recognised steel company with a stronger domestic presence, driven by innovation and proactive expansion. For that, we will continue focusing on product leadership with products that respond to the changing requirements of modern construction. Kamdhenu Nxt and PAS 10000 are examples of this direction, while our structural steel, roofing, pipes, PEB and other building-material categories allow us to address a broader part of the construction value chain.

Our focus on quality and technology integration has given us a good standing and we are focused on maintaining and investing in making all our products at par with global standards. Our franchise-based model has demonstrated that a strong brand combined with a distributed manufacturing and channel network can scale efficiently. We will look to leverage that experience as we develop our footprint in deep Indian market.
