Group CEO Mr. Sagar Sawlani shares how Mtandt has evolved into a 25-SBU powerhouse driving innovation across construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, oil & gas, and renewables.
Mtandt Group: 50 Years of Elevating India’s Safety, Productivity, and Access Technology

Over the last five decades, we’ve evolved from a small industrial supply business into a diversified group with 25 strategic business units serving construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, oil & gas, power, and renewable sectors.

Our vision is clear — to fuel joy and build pride by delivering exceptional products and services that enhance safety and performance.

Q. Mtandt Group has been a pioneer in providing access, lifting, and safety solutions across diverse sectors in India and beyond. Can you briefly walk us through the company’s journey so far and the key milestones that have defined its growth?

Mtandt Group’s journey began in 1974, with a simple vision — to make workplaces safer and operations more efficient. Over the last five decades, we’ve evolved from a small industrial supply business into a diversified group with 25 strategic business units serving construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, oil & gas, power, and renewable sectors.

Some of our key milestones include:

  • 1980s–1990s: Establishing leadership in industrial tools and safety equipment under Madras Tools & Tackles.
  • 2000s: Introducing international-grade access equipment to India — from scaffolding to aerial work platforms (AWPs).
  • 2010s: Formation of Mtandt Rentals Limited, which pioneered the concept of MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms) rental in India with a focus on safety, operator training, and preventive maintenance. Alongside, CESL (Capital Equipment Services Limited) was established to create a skilled, safety-focused workforce. Complementing this were new brands like Ezyplus, and the modular temporary road mats – PortaDeck
  • 2020s: The 2020s brought digital transformation and product diversification. Mtandt expanded into suspended and underdeck systems, telehandlers, and battery-powered lighting solutions, supported by subsidiaries like Evolution Access, Vertikal, CESL, and ToolsBond. With Equipr enabling telematicsdriven fleet monitoring and innovations like Fast
Beam for bridge access, Mtandt continues to redefine safety and efficiency across industrial and infrastructure projects.

From tools and tackles to MEWPs, aluminium scaffolding, suspended platforms, certified training and digital telematics, Mtandt’s 50-year journey represents a legacy of innovation and an unwavering commitment to making workplaces safer, smarter, and more productive.

Q. From aerial work platforms to advanced material handling and safety systems, MT&T portfolio reflects a deep focus on innovation and customer-centricity. What core values or vision continue to drive the company’s strategy in today’s evolving industrial landscape?

Our vision is clear — to fuel joy and build pride by delivering exceptional products and services that enhance safety and performance.

We operate on three strong pillars:

  1. Safety as a Value: Every product and process at Mtandt is designed around the principle that everyone deserves to go home safe every day.
  2. Innovation for Productivity: We invest continuously in smarter, more efficient systems — whether that’s through IoT-enabled MEWPs, energy-efficient equipment, or ergonomic scaffolding systems.
  3. Customer-Centric Solutions: We believe in understanding our customer’s operational pain points and offering end-to-end solutions — not just machines

This philosophy ensures that whether we serve a small fabrication unit or a multi-billion infrastructure project, the experience remains consistent — safe, reliable, and value-driven.

Q. MT&T offers a range of aerial and material lifts from vertical mast lifts to telehandlers. How do you tailor these machines for sector-specific applications like warehousing, refineries, or metro construction?

At Mtandt, every equipment deployment begins with a deep understanding of the work environment. Each sector — whether warehousing, refineries, or large-scale infrastructure — demands a unique balance of reach, precision, mobility, and safety.

For Warehousing and logistics, we offer compact electric scissor lifts and vertical mast lifts that deliver efficient elevation in narrow aisles, ensuring zero emissions and smooth maneuverability for indoor operations.

In metro, bridge, and infrastructure projects, Mtandt provides a comprehensive range of access equipment, including Scissor Lifts, Spider Lifts, Boom Lifts, Static Booms, Rail-Mounted Boom Lifts, Telescopic Ultradeck Booms, and Tunnel Punching Robot Booms. These machines feature four-wheel drive, oscillating axles, and differential locking systems, offering xceptional stability, traction, and adaptability on uneven or challenging terrains. They enable teams to safely access complex geometries and elevated structures — an essential advantage for rail corridors, viaducts, tunnels, and elevated stations.

Complementing these are underdeck access systems like WEB Deck and Fast Beam, which integrate seamlessly with lifting operations for bridge and structural maintenance.

By customizing machine specifications, control interfaces, and safety systems for each sector, Mtandt ensures every solution delivers maximum productivity, uptime, and safety at height.

Q. India’s infrastructure boom is intensifying demand for MEWPs and temporary access systems. How is MT&T scaling production or distribution to capitalize on projects like rail upgrades and urban development?

India’s infrastructure expansion has accelerated the demand for safe, efficient, and highperformance access equipment — and Mtandt is scaling to meet it through a combination of fleet growth, digital integration, and strategic OEM partnerships.

We now operate a fleet of over 2,000+ MEWPs, making Mtandt the largest access equipment provider in India. Our pan-India network of rental hubs, service engineers, and logistics partners ensures rapid deployment and technical support across metros, airports, industrial plants, and infrastructure corridors.

Through our OEM partnerships with global leaders like Dingli, Comet, Comansa, and Easy Lift, Omme, CMC, Falcon, Hoeflon, Teupen, WEB Systems along with in-house innovations from Evolution Access, and Vertikal, we offer an unmatched range of aerial work platforms, suspended access, and lifting systems tailored to India’s evolving project landscape.

Our ecosystem is further strengthened by Equipr, Mtandt’s digital telematics platform that enables real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and fleet optimization, and CESL our certified training arm that ensures every operator and technician is competent, safetytrained, and globally certified to operate MEWP and work at heights.

With this integrated approach — combining strong OEM collaborations, advanced digital tools, and a nationwide support structure — Mtandt is well-positioned to power India’s next phase of urban and industrial development.

Q. With the emergence of automation and digitization in construction equipment, are you exploring smart platforms (telemetry-ready lifts, sensor-equipped scaffolding) or AGV-enabled access solutions?

Absolutely. The future of access lies in connected intelligence. We’ve already integrated telemetry and IoT into our MEWP rental fleet through the Equipr, offering real-time insights on equipment usage, health, and maintenance schedules.

We’re also exploring AGV-assisted lifting systems and remote inspection tools, including drone-based assessments for complex industrial and bridge maintenance environments.
