Mr G S Farooqi Director Malik Trading and Demolition discussing advanced demolition engineering and safety practices
Mr. G. S. Farooqi, Director of Malik Trading & Demolition, shares insights on leadership, technology-driven demolition, and sustainable industry practices.

Our ISO 9001:2015 and OHSAS 45001:2015 certifications form the foundation of our daily operations and directly guide our commitment to quality and safety. They ensure a structured approach through detailed method statements, quality control plans, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) for every activity.

Q. How has your leadership philosophy shaped the company’s culture and driven its growth in the demolition industry over time?

Our leadership philosophy is founded on engineering precision, safety-first execution, and continuous technological advancement. In earlier days, demolishing dilapidated, fireaffected, or earthquake-damaged buildings was highly challenging due to limited technology and higher risks; recognizing this, Malik Trading & Demolition adopted advanced solutions such as high-reach jaw crusher technology, shear cutters, and rock breaker systems. By shifting from conventional demolition to engineered deconstruction, we focus on minimizing risk, enhancing safety, and addressing environmental concerns like dust,
noise, and vibration. This culture of planned execution, skilled manpower, and modern technology has improved operational efficiency and driven sustainable growth while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Q. What key factors influenced the company’s evolution from traditional demolition services to offering specialised solutions?

The evolution of Malik Trading & Demolition from traditional demolition services to specialised solutions was influenced by increasing project complexity, dense urban environments, and stricter safety and environmental regulations. Conventional manual demolition methods became unsuitable for high-risk, precisionsensitive works, especially in live plants, high-rise structures, and confined urban zones. To address these technical challenges, Malik strategically adopted advanced demolition technologies such as controlled demolition, diamond wire sawing, hydraulic crushing, and chemical cracking agents. These specialised methods enable vibrationfree, noise-controlled, and structurally selective demolition while ensuring safety and protection of adjacent structures. This transition was further strengthened by continuous equipment modernisation and strong inhouse engineering expertise, allowing Malik to deliver technically sound, compliant, and efficient demolition solutions.

Q. In what ways do your ISO 9001:2015 and OHSAS 45001:2015 certifications shape your everyday operations and commitment to quality and safety?

Our ISO 9001:2015 and OHSAS 45001:2015 certifications form the foundation of our daily operations and directly guide our commitment to quality and safety. They ensure a structured approach through detailed method statements, quality control plans, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) for every activity. Each demolition
project is preceded by structural assessment, equipment selection, safety audits, and permit approvals. These systems enforce disciplined documentation, preventive maintenance of highcapacity machinery, toolbox talks, and continuous workforce training. As a result, they help us maintain strict compliance, minimize risks, achieve zero-incident performance, and deliver consistent, high-quality demolition outcomes across all projects.

Q. Could you elaborate on some of the flagship products that you had showcased at EXCON and highlight the key takeaways derived from them?

At EXCON, Malik Trading & Demolition showcased a range of advanced demolition engineering solutions, including high-reach crushers with multi-attachment systems, diamond wire cutting technology for mass concrete structures, robotic demolition machines for confined and sensitive areas, and controlled non-explosive demolition techniques. The key takeaway from these exhibits was the industry’s clear shift from conventional bruteforce demolition to precision-driven, engineered solutions. These technologies enable significant reductions in dust, vibration, and noise while enhancing productivity, safety, and material recovery, reinforcing Malik’s commitment to sustainable, safe, and environmentally responsible demolition practices.

Q. How has India’s demolition services market transformed over the past decade, and what trends are likely to shape its future development?

Over the past decade, India’s demolition services market has transformed from largely unorganised, manual practices to mechanised and technology-driven operations. Rapid urban redevelopment, infrastructure expansion, and stricter environmental and safety regulations have increased the demand for engineered demolition solutions. We Malik Trading & Demolition have played a key role in this shift by adopting advanced equipment and systematic execution methods. Looking ahead, emerging trends include selective deconstruction, recycling and reuse of demolition waste, wider use of robotic and high-reach machinery, and digital project planning through BIM and 3D structural assessment. Clients now prioritise safety compliance, speed, and minimal disruption, pushing the industry toward sustainable practices and global best standards.

Q. As a pioneer in demolition engineering, what will be your vision for the industry’s future in our country, particularly regarding technology, safety, and sustainability?

As a pioneer in demolition engineering, our vision is to guide India toward safer, smarter, and more sustainable demolition practices. Malik Trading & Demolition envisions a future driven by high-reach mechanisation, automation, AIassisted project planning, and environmentally responsible demolition methods. The focus will be on achieving zeroaccident sites, maximising
material recovery and recycling, reducing carbon footprint, and strict adherence to international safety standards. By continuously integrating nextgeneration machinery with strong in-house engineering expertise, Malik aims to support India’s rapidly evolving urban redevelopment and industrial growth in a safe, efficient, and sustainable manner
