Union Minister of State Kamlesh Paswan visited Majuli district in Assam to review the progress of key central government programmes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) implementation in the region.
During the visit, the minister examined ongoing and completed works under the three schemes and interacted with local officials and beneficiaries to assess on-ground progress. He emphasised the importance of timely execution, high quality standards and full utilisation of allocated funds to ensure intended outcomes for rural communities.
At a programme review meeting, Paswan highlighted achievements in housing, rural connectivity and livelihood generation, noting improvements in infrastructure and community development in Majuli. He encouraged officials to maintain momentum in completing pending works and to resolve bottlenecks affecting project delivery.
Under the PMAY-G, efforts have been made to provide pucca houses to eligible rural households in the district, reflecting the broader objective of ensuring affordable and dignified housing for all. Progress in beneficiary identification, construction and fund utilisation was discussed during the review.
The review also covered implementation of the NRLM, which focuses on empowering rural households through self-help groups, skill development and access to credit and livelihood opportunities. Paswan underscored the scheme’s role in enhancing economic participation and improving incomes for rural families.
Paswan also evaluated road connectivity under the PMGSY, which seeks to expand rural road networks, improve last-mile connectivity and enhance accessibility for remote habitations. Officials provided updates on road works, funding status and timelines for ongoing projects.
The minister urged all stakeholders to pursue coordinated action and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to ensure that programme objectives are met and beneficiaries receive the full benefits of the schemes.
Paswan’s visit coincided with interactions with local residents, who shared their experiences related to housing, livelihoods and rural road access. The discussions also included community feedback on service delivery and suggestions for further improvements in scheme implementation.
The review underscores the government’s continuing focus on rural development and inclusive growth through targeted interventions in housing, livelihoods and infrastructure.
