L&T secures EPC contract from Petronet LNG for Dahej petrochemical facility
Larsen & Toubro has secured a major EPCC contract from Petronet LNG for storage and handling facilities at the Dahej Petrochemical Complex in Gujarat.

Larsen & Toubro’s Hydrocarbon Onshore business has been awarded a significant engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) contract by Petronet LNG for its upcoming petrochemical development at Dahej, Gujarat. The order value is estimated to be in the range of ₹2,500 crore to ₹5,000 crore.

The project will be implemented on a lump sum turnkey basis at the Dahej Petrochemical Complex. It includes the construction of a 170,000 cubic metre double-wall LNG and ethane storage tank, along with a 140,000 cubic metre double-wall propane storage tank. In addition to storage infrastructure, L&T will develop associated ethane and propane handling and despatch systems to support downstream operations.

These facilities will play a critical role in feeding the Propane Dehydrogenation (PDH) and Polypropylene (PP) plant being developed at the site. The overall project is part of India’s first integrated petrochemical complex designed to utilise cold energy recovered from an LNG terminal, enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability.

Petronet LNG, the project owner, is a joint venture backed by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, GAIL (India), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation.

The Dahej petrochemical initiative is expected to significantly reduce India’s reliance on polypropylene imports by addressing the domestic demand–supply imbalance. It also supports the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by strengthening local manufacturing capabilities in the petrochemical sector.

Commenting on the order win, Subramanian Sarma, Deputy Managing Director and President of Larsen & Toubro, stated that the project represents a key milestone, combining advanced LNG cold energy utilisation with the expansion of India’s indigenous petrochemical production base.

L&T’s Hydrocarbon Onshore division is among the country’s leading EPC contractors in the sector, with extensive experience across refineries, petrochemical complexes, gas processing units, fertiliser plants, LNG terminals, and cross-country pipeline projects in India and overseas.
