Two Liebherr mobile cranes have successfully lifted and positioned a retired Airbus A310 at Serengeti Park in Lower Saxony, Germany, marking a major milestone in the transformation of the aircraft into a one-of-a-kind dining attraction.

The massive tandem lift was executed by Schlamann Autokrane GmbH using Liebherr models LTM 1300-6.3 and LTM 1250-5.1, which carefully unloaded the 49-tonne fuselage from heavy transporters and lowered it onto prepared supports at the park site. The LTM 1300-6.3 handled the main load of 32.5 tonnes at a radius of up to 22 metres, equipped with 77 tonnes of ballast, while the LTM 1250-5.1 carried the remaining 16.5 tonnes with 42 tonnes of ballast, reflecting precise planning and coordination.

“This is a very exciting order,” said Torsten Schlamann, Managing Director of Schlamann Autokrane GmbH, highlighting the complexity of both the transport and lifting phases. The aircraft was brought from Langenhagen Airport and, after being carefully placed in the park, will be outfitted to serve visitors as a restaurant.

Serengeti Park, known for its blend of wildlife safari experiences and amusement attractions, first acquired the aircraft at auction several years ago with the vision of repurposing it into a restaurant. Park officials have noted that overcoming regulatory hurdles and logistical challenges was key to bringing the project to fruition and the crane operation represents a pivotal step toward that goal.

The restaurant, expected to open in September 2026, will offer a distinctive setting that combines culinary experience with the park’s unique environment, adding an innovative feature to its leisure offerings.

Schlamann Autokrane’s fleet of mobile cranes largely made up of Liebherr machines underscores the important role these versatile lifting solutions play in complex heavy-lift projects like this one.
