LNG facility project planned at Haldia Dock Complex by Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port and East Horizon
Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata signs agreement with East Horizon to develop an LNG facility at Haldia Dock Complex.

Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) has entered into a partnership with East Horizon Pvt. Ltd. for the development of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility at the Haldia Dock Complex, with an estimated investment of around ₹260 crore. The collaboration is aimed at strengthening LNG infrastructure at the port and supporting the growing demand for cleaner fuel alternatives in the region.

Under the agreement, East Horizon will establish and operate a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) at Haldia. The facility will enable the receiving, storage, and regasification of LNG, allowing the fuel to be converted back into natural gas and supplied through the pipeline network for industrial and commercial use.

The project is expected to enhance the port’s capability to handle LNG cargo and improve natural gas availability for industries across eastern India. By facilitating LNG imports and distribution, the initiative is also intended to contribute to the expansion of gas-based infrastructure in the region.

Officials indicated that the development aligns with the broader objective of increasing the share of natural gas in India’s overall energy mix. The LNG facility at Haldia is expected to play an important role in strengthening the supply chain while supporting cleaner and more efficient energy use.

The agreement marks another step in Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port’s efforts to diversify cargo operations and develop energy-related infrastructure within the Haldia Dock Complex. Further project details and timelines are expected to be announced as the development progresses.
