Kinfra identifies more than 550 acres in Thiruvananthapuram district to support port-led industrial and logistics development around Vizhinjam International Seaport.

Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) has identified more than 550 acres of land in Thiruvananthapuram district to support industrial development linked to the Vizhinjam International Seaport, marking a key step forward in building a broader port-centric economic ecosystem.

The land identified by Kinfra includes about 400 acres in Kulathoor and 106 acres in Perumkadavila in Neyyattinkara taluk, along with an additional 50 acres in Kattakada taluk. Plans call for acquisition of the parcels under a direct purchase model, with compensation to landowners funded in part by the ₹1,000 crore allocation made in the Kerala state budget for port-linked industrialisation.

The land will form the foundation for future industrial activities such as logistics parks, container freight stations, warehousing and manufacturing units within roughly 20 kilometres of Vizhinjam port. Officials say detailed surveys are underway and discussions with landowners are progressing as part of efforts to expedite availability of industrial land near the seaport.

The move comes as the Vizhinjam International Seaport, developed by Adani Ports under a public–private partnership, continues to register growth in vessel calls and cargo handling, underscoring its importance as a maritime gateway. Authorities and stakeholders have long emphasised that auxiliary industrial and logistics infrastructure around the port is critical to fully realise its transshipment potential and spur regional economic development.

In parallel, the state government has engaged consultants to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for port-led industrialisation, covering land identification, market feasibility and cluster development strategies. The port’s managing entity, Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd (VISL), has also proposed additional land totaling more than 700 acres for future expansions.
