The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has climbed to 22nd place globally in the latest international container port rankings, while retaining its position as India’s largest container port.

The ranking reflects JNPA’s continued growth in container handling volumes, operational efficiency, and infrastructure development. The port has consistently expanded its capacity through the addition of new terminals, modernization initiatives, and improved cargo-handling capabilities.

Located in Navi Mumbai, JNPA handles a significant share of India’s containerized cargo traffic and serves as a key gateway for the country’s international trade. The port’s performance has been supported by increasing container throughput, enhanced logistics connectivity, and ongoing investments in port infrastructure.

Over the past few years, JNPA has undertaken several expansion projects, including terminal capacity augmentation, road and rail connectivity improvements, and the development of logistics and warehousing facilities. These initiatives have strengthened the port’s competitiveness among major container ports worldwide.

The authority has also focused on digitalisation and process automation to improve vessel turnaround times, cargo evacuation, and overall operational efficiency. Such measures have contributed to the port’s improved standing in global rankings.

JNPA continues to play a central role in India’s maritime sector and is expected to further enhance its capacity through ongoing projects, including the development of the Vadhvan Port project and expansion of logistics infrastructure in the region.

The latest ranking highlights JNPA’s growing importance in global maritime trade and underscores its position as India’s leading container gateway, handling a substantial portion of the country’s export and import container traffic.
