Jindal Ferrous Limited (JFL) has commissioned an integrated steel manufacturing facility at Jajpur, Odisha, with an investment of ₹5,000 crore. Inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on October 14, the facility includes a steel melting shop with an annual capacity of 2.2 million tonnes (MTPA), a blast furnace, a sinter plant and associated infrastructure.

The commissioning marks JFL’s entry into integrated steel production. The facility combines key stages of steelmaking, allowing the company to manage production processes, raw material utilisation and product quality within an integrated setup.

The plant incorporates a Level-2 automation platform with a blast furnace expert model, high top-pressure operations and dry gas-cleaning systems. These technologies are designed to improve process stability and furnace performance. The company has also incorporated provisions to recycle metallurgical waste through the sinter plant and utilise process gases across operations to improve resource efficiency.

JFL has entered into a technical collaboration with Japan-based JFE Steel Corporation to support the operational ramp-up and steel production. Equipment and technology suppliers for the project include Germany’s Paul Wurth SA, part of SMS Group; Sweden’s UHT; Austria’s Primetals Technologies; and Italy’s Danieli. Their contributions cover blast furnace technology, the Granshot system, sinter plant and steelmaking equipment, casting technology, ladle furnace systems and hot-metal desulphurisation.

The plant is located close to raw material sources, pellet supplies and port connectivity, with long-term iron ore linkage arrangements supporting its operational requirements. JFL plans to supply carbon steel to customers across India, particularly in the northern and eastern markets.

Abhyuday Jindal, promoter of Jindal Ferrous Limited, said Odisha’s natural resources, infrastructure connectivity and manufacturing potential made it a suitable location for the company’s first integrated steelmaking complex. He said the facility had been developed with an emphasis on product quality, process efficiency and manufacturing reliability.

The project is expected to generate employment opportunities for more than 2,000 people, according to reports citing the company. Its commissioning adds to Odisha’s steel manufacturing capacity and expands JFL’s presence in the state’s industrial sector.
