Indian Railways Approves ₹493 Crore Doubling Project for Adipur–Bhuj Section in Gujarat

Indian Railways has approved a ₹493 crore doubling project for the Adipur–Bhuj rail section in Gujarat, a move aimed at enhancing rail capacity, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening connectivity in the Kutch region. The project will address growing passenger and freight traffic on one of western India’s strategically important railway corridors.

The sanctioned work involves the doubling of the existing single-line section between Adipur and Bhuj, enabling smoother train operations and reducing congestion on the route. The corridor serves as a key link for both passenger services and freight movement connected to industrial clusters, logistics hubs, and port infrastructure in the Kutch region.

The project is expected to increase line capacity, facilitate the operation of additional trains, and improve punctuality by reducing delays caused by crossing movements on the single-line section. Enhanced rail infrastructure will also support the movement of freight linked to ports, industries, and commercial centres across Gujarat.

The Adipur–Bhuj stretch forms part of the broader railway network serving Kutch, a region that has witnessed significant industrial and infrastructure development in recent years. Improved rail connectivity is expected to support economic activity, strengthen logistics efficiency, and improve access to remote areas of the district.

The approval is in line with Indian Railways’ ongoing programme of capacity augmentation through doubling, multi-tracking, electrification, and signalling upgrades across high-demand routes. Such projects are aimed at improving network efficiency while supporting future growth in passenger and freight traffic.

Once completed, the Adipur–Bhuj doubling project is expected to enhance regional connectivity, improve freight evacuation capabilities, and strengthen the railway infrastructure supporting Gujarat’s expanding industrial and port-led economy.
