Hyderabad is planning to introduce a pod-based transit system to improve last-mile connectivity between metro stations and nearby residential and commercial areas.
The proposed system will be based on Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) technology, featuring small, driverless electric pods running on elevated tracks. These pods will offer on-demand, point-to-point travel, helping commuters seamlessly connect from metro stations to offices, homes, and business hubs.
A pilot project is being planned on key corridors such as Raidurg–Kukatpally, covering major zones like HITEC City, Financial District, and surrounding neighbourhoods. The pods are expected to carry 4–8 passengers and operate at speeds of up to 40 km/h, providing quick and efficient transit without being affected by road traffic.
The initiative is aimed at addressing one of the biggest challenges faced by metro users—last-mile connectivity, where commuters often struggle with limited transport options, high costs, and congestion after exiting metro stations.
The system will run on elevated guideways integrated with metro stations, minimizing land acquisition needs and enabling smooth multimodal connectivity. Authorities have already initiated steps to conduct technical and financial feasibility studies before moving ahead with implementation.
Once implemented, the pod transit system is expected to enhance urban mobility, reduce travel time, and promote sustainable transport solutions, positioning Hyderabad as a forward-looking city in next-generation public transportation.
