Hindustan Zinc Limited has signed a six-year transportation contract with MFL India Limited for the deployment of 30 electric trucks to transport zinc and lead concentrate, further advancing the electrification of its mine-to-smelter logistics network.

Under the agreement, the electric trucks will transport concentrates from Hindustan Zinc’s flagship Rampura Agucha Mine in Rajasthan to its smelting operations. The initiative is aimed at reducing emissions associated with the company’s logistics operations while accelerating the transition towards cleaner material transportation.

MFL India, a logistics solutions provider focused on the movement of materials across critical industries, will deploy and operate the electric truck fleet under the six-year arrangement. The partnership forms part of Hindustan Zinc’s broader efforts to introduce lower-emission transportation solutions across its mining and metals value chain.

The deployment builds on the company’s ongoing efforts to electrify its logistics network. Hindustan Zinc has been working with logistics partners to introduce electric vehicles for the transportation of concentrates between its mines and processing facilities.

The company has also previously expanded its use of alternative-fuel and electric transportation solutions as part of its decarbonisation roadmap. Its logistics transition is aligned with its long-term target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The move to electric trucks is expected to support the decarbonisation of the mine-to-smelter transportation chain, where the movement of mineral concentrates forms an important part of the overall logistics footprint.

The latest agreement, Hindustan Zinc is continuing to expand the use of cleaner mobility solutions across its operations, while integrating electric transportation into the movement of zinc and lead concentrates from mine to smelter.
