Metro Expansion in Gurugram: 28.5 km Corridor from HUDA City Centre to Cyber City Gets Go-Ahead

Gurugram is on the brink of a major public transport transformation with the long-awaited metro expansion project nearing execution. Phase 1 of the new metro line from Millennium City Centre (HUDA City Centre) to Cyber City is progressing steadily, with the civil construction contract expected to be awarded soon.

A joint venture between Dilip Buildcon Ltd and RBL Infracon has emerged as the lowest bidder for the ₹1,503 crore package. The official contract signing is anticipated within the next few weeks, setting the stage for construction work to commence by September 2025.

The proposed corridor will span 28.5 kilometers with 27 elevated stations. Phase 1 focuses on a 15.2-km stretch with 14 stations, extending from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9. It also includes a 1.8-km spur to Dwarka Expressway and a ramp to Sector 33 depot. The civil work is projected to be completed within 30 months from the start date.

This expansion aims to significantly enhance last-mile connectivity across Cyber City, Palam Vihar, Sector 10, Sector 23, and Rezang La Chowk. It will help reduce traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions, and integrate with existing networks such as the Rapid Metro and RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System).

Approved by the Union Cabinet in June 2023, the project has undergone detailed design and tendering. French firm Systra MVA was appointed as the Detailed Design Consultant, while a joint venture of DB Engineering & Hill International serves as the General Consultant, ensuring quality control, safety, and efficient project execution.

While some land and alignment challenges persist—particularly near the Cyber City interchange—the Haryana government has established a panel to address these without delaying Phase 1 implementation.

Once completed, this corridor is set to revolutionize urban mobility in Gurugram, offering a greener, faster, and integrated metro experience aligned with India’s goals of sustainable urban development and smart infrastructure.
