Gujarat Natural Resources Limited (GNRL) has resumed its drilling campaign following the monsoon break, deploying two drilling rigs simultaneously across different locations as it steps up exploration and development activity in the Cambay Basin. The company is aiming to meet its operational targets for the year ending March 31, 2027.
The company, along with its subsidiary GNRL Oil & Gas (I) Private Limited (GOGIL), is carrying out parallel drilling operations following a seasonal pause caused by the monsoon. During the pre-monsoon campaign, the company drilled five wells, comprising four development wells and one appraisal well.
All four development wells are currently producing oil and gas, adding to the company’s ongoing production base. GNRL is also pursuing new exploration and producing assets in India and overseas, with alliances for potential acquisitions currently at advanced stages of negotiation.
North Kathana Appraisal Well Confirms Reserves
An appraisal well drilled at North Kathana has confirmed substantial oil and gas reserves in the EPIV, Cambay Shale and Olpad formations. Testing and evaluation of the individual prospective layers are currently underway. Based on the results, the company is planning additional development wells in North Kathana.
The current drilling programme involves two rigs operating in parallel, while four development wells are already producing. The five wells drilled during the pre-monsoon campaign included four development wells and one appraisal well.
According to the company update reported by Sahi, GNRL and its subsidiary had initiated a multi-well drilling campaign with an estimated investment of ₹69 crore. The company reported revenue of ₹5.79 crore for the quarter ended March 2026, with earnings per share at ₹0.10.
The post-monsoon restart is expected to allow GNRL to continue development activity across its Cambay Basin assets, while the confirmed reserves at North Kathana provide scope for further drilling and field development.
