The Gujarat government has approved a ₹1,185 crore road infrastructure upgrade programme aimed at strengthening connectivity across the Surat Economic Region (SER), an important economic hub in South Gujarat. The decision was taken under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel as part of the state’s broader development strategy.

The initiative includes 24 road upgradation projects covering nearly 383 kilometres across multiple districts in the region. The projects will be implemented in Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi and Dang, with the objective of improving regional transport networks and supporting industrial growth.

The Surat Economic Region is considered one of Gujarat’s key economic centres and contributes over 35 percent to the state’s overall economic output. Strengthening road infrastructure in this region is expected to enhance connectivity between industrial clusters, logistics corridors and major economic zones.

The road development projects form part of a broader regional economic master planning initiative designed to ensure balanced development across Gujarat. These plans focus on improving infrastructure, promoting industrial expansion and strengthening economic ecosystems in key regions.

Improved road connectivity is expected to facilitate smoother movement between industrial hubs and Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) estates, helping businesses streamline transportation and logistics operations.

Several major industries in the region are likely to benefit from the upgraded infrastructure, including textiles, chemicals, petrochemicals and diamond processing. Other sectors such as fisheries, sugar production, dairy processing, mining activities and operations linked to Hazira port are also expected to see improved logistical efficiency.

Connectivity to industrial locations such as Kadod, Kadodara, Jolwa, Mangrol, Kosamba and Tarsad will also be strengthened under the project. In addition to supporting industries, the improved road network is expected to help farmers transport agricultural produce to markets more efficiently.

The initiative is expected to play an important role in strengthening regional infrastructure and supporting economic growth across South Gujarat.
