Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday inaugurated the Amalner(B)–Beed broad gauge railway line, marking Beed district’s long-awaited entry onto India’s railway map. The launch coincided with Marathwada Mukti Sangram Din, adding symbolic weight to the event.
The 67.78 km stretch, part of the 261.25 km Ahilyanagar–Beed–Parli Vaijnath project, has been developed under a 50:50 cost-sharing model between the state government and Indian Railways. Fadnavis flagged off the inaugural passenger service from Beed to Ahilyanagar, fulfilling a decades-old demand of local residents.
Calling the project a “lifeline for Marathwada,” Fadnavis said the new line will enhance connectivity, ease travel, boost trade, and provide opportunities for students and professionals.
Beed, until now one of the few districts in Maharashtra without rail connectivity, is expected to witness faster growth with improved access to markets, industries, and education hubs.
Railway officials said work is progressing on the remaining stretches of the project, which, once complete, will link Beed more effectively with Parli and the broader Marathwada region.
