Mining equipment and technology company Epiroc and telecommunications major Ericsson have expanded their long-standing collaboration through a global agreement aimed at accelerating the adoption of LTE and 5G connectivity across mining operations worldwide.

Under the agreement, Epiroc will integrate and offer Ericsson’s LTE and 5G connectivity solutions through its global customer network, strengthening its portfolio of digital and automation technologies for both underground and surface mining operations. The partnership is designed to support mining companies as they increasingly adopt automation, remote operations, and data-driven technologies.

The collaboration will enable mining companies to deploy secure, high-performance wireless networks that serve as the foundation for advanced applications such as autonomous equipment, remote-controlled machinery, predictive maintenance, telematics, collision avoidance systems, and situational awareness solutions.

By combining Ericsson’s expertise in private wireless networks with Epiroc’s mining technology and operational experience, the two companies aim to provide an integrated connectivity platform that can support digital transformation across mining sites. The offering is expected to help customers improve operational efficiency, safety, productivity, and sustainability.

The agreement builds on a relationship that began in 2018, when the companies first started exploring the application of LTE and 5G technologies in mining environments. The latest partnership expands that cooperation into a broader go-to-market alliance focused on accelerating mining automation and digitalisation on a global scale.

As mining companies continue to deploy connected equipment and digital technologies across their operations, reliable communications infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. The expanded alliance is expected to support the industry’s growing demand for resilient connectivity solutions capable of supporting next-generation mining applications.

Through the partnership, Epiroc will also be able to integrate Ericsson Private 5G technology with its existing digital solutions portfolio, providing mining customers with a unified approach to connectivity, automation, and operational management.
