Global logistics and port operator DP World has entered into exclusive negotiations with the Port of Corpus Christi Authority for the development of a new container terminal at the Port of Corpus Christi, marking a significant step toward expanding container handling capacity on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Under the proposed arrangement, DP World will work with the port authority to evaluate the design, construction, financing, operation, and long-term management of a modern container terminal capable of supporting growing trade volumes and supply chain requirements. The project is expected to enhance the port’s capabilities beyond its traditional focus on energy and bulk cargo operations.

The planned terminal would enable the Port of Corpus Christi to handle containerized cargo on a larger scale, creating new opportunities for importers, exporters, manufacturers, and logistics providers operating across Texas and the broader Gulf Coast region.

Port officials believe the development could strengthen the port’s competitiveness by diversifying cargo operations and attracting new trade routes. The facility is also expected to improve connectivity between maritime transportation networks and inland logistics corridors serving major industrial and consumer markets.

DP World, which operates ports, terminals, logistics parks, and supply chain facilities across multiple continents, views the project as part of its broader strategy to expand its presence in key global trade gateways. The company has been actively investing in integrated logistics and port infrastructure to support evolving supply chain demands.

The Port of Corpus Christi is one of the largest ports in the United States by cargo tonnage and plays a critical role in energy exports, industrial trade, and maritime commerce. The addition of a dedicated container terminal would further diversify its operations and support long-term cargo growth.

While the negotiations remain at an exclusive discussion stage, both parties will continue evaluating technical, commercial, and operational aspects of the project. If finalized, the terminal is expected to strengthen regional trade infrastructure, generate economic activity, and create new opportunities for businesses engaged in international commerce.
