The Delhi government has approved an investment of ₹100 crore for the implementation of an Advanced Traffic System (ATS) aimed at enhancing traffic management and road safety across the national capital. The allocation forms part of a broader ₹1,200 crore grant released to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to support transport modernisation and technology-led improvements.
The advanced traffic initiative is expected to strengthen traffic flow, reduce congestion and improve compliance with road rules through the adoption of state-of-the-art technologies for surveillance and traffic control. While specific technical details are being finalised, officials indicate the system will integrate modern monitoring tools to support both enforcement and real-time decision-making in high-traffic zones.
The ₹100 crore allocation was approved by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta as part of the financial outlay aimed at upgrading the city’s mobility framework. Of the total ₹1,200 crore grant to DTC, ₹1,100 crore has been earmarked for operational expenses including payment of salaries, pensions and other statutory obligations for transport employees and pensioners, while the remaining ₹100 crore is dedicated to transport modernisation and technology enhancement.
The advanced traffic system is expected to complement existing efforts to strengthen urban mobility infrastructure in Delhi, which is also focusing on the expansion of public transport, reduction of pollution and application of digital traffic solutions. Past initiatives have included the deployment of AI-powered traffic monitoring technologies and pilot systems on major thoroughfares, with the aim of optimising traffic signals, improving violation detection and enhancing overall road safety.
Officials said the new funding aligns with the government’s broader vision of transforming Delhi into a technology-driven and sustainable city by integrating advanced tools to ease traffic, reduce accidents, and deliver efficient urban transport services.
