Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has set a new national record by handling 7.78 lakh tonnes of cargo in a single day on June 26, 2026, marking the highest-ever cargo throughput achieved by any Indian port within a 24-hour period. The milestone surpasses the port’s previous record and underscores its growing operational efficiency and cargo-handling capabilities.

The record was achieved through coordinated handling of multiple cargo streams, efficient berth utilisation, rapid vessel turnaround and continuous operations across the port’s terminals. The performance reflects the combined efforts of port officials, terminal operators, shipping lines, stevedores, logistics partners and other stakeholders involved in cargo movement.

The latest achievement further strengthens Deendayal Port’s position among India’s leading maritime gateways. Over the past two years, the port has consistently improved its cargo-handling performance by expanding capacity, modernising infrastructure and adopting digital technologies to streamline port operations. In November 2025, it became the fastest major port in India to cross 100 million tonnes of cargo during the financial year, highlighting its sustained growth trajectory.

Located on Gujarat’s west coast, Deendayal Port serves as a key logistics hub for northern and western India, handling a diversified cargo mix that includes crude oil, petroleum products, coal, fertilisers, containers, iron and steel, agricultural commodities and other bulk cargo. Its strategic location and expanding multimodal connectivity have strengthened its role in supporting India’s international trade and industrial supply chains.

The new single-day cargo handling record reflects the port’s continued focus on improving operational productivity and infrastructure utilisation as it works towards increasing cargo volumes under the country’s broader maritime development and logistics modernisation initiatives.
