Coimbatore’s longest flyover to feature AI-enabled surveillance cameras for real-time traffic monitoring and enhanced commuter safety.

In a move to enhance road safety and traffic efficiency, Coimbatore’s longest flyover is set to be fitted with advanced AI-powered surveillance cameras for real-time monitoring. The initiative aims to make the stretch safer, smarter, and more responsive to traffic conditions.

The new system will use artificial intelligence and computer vision technology to track vehicle movement, detect traffic violations, and identify potential accidents instantly. Data from these cameras will be integrated with the city’s central traffic management system, allowing authorities to respond quickly to congestion, breakdowns, or emergencies.

Officials from the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation and the traffic police department have confirmed that the project will also help in automated number plate recognition (ANPR), red-light violation detection, and real-time analytics to improve traffic flow and law enforcement.

The AI-enabled setup is part of a broader Smart City initiative, focusing on using technology to improve urban infrastructure and public safety. Once operational, the system is expected to significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks and enhance commuter safety along the busy flyover corridor.

With this upgrade, Coimbatore joins a growing list of Indian cities integrating AI-driven smart mobility systems, marking a major step toward intelligent urban transport management in Tamil Nadu.
