The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has confirmed that the long-pending Chennai Port–Maduravoyal elevated corridor is expected to be completed by November 2027, providing a major boost to port connectivity in Chennai.
The project involves the construction of a 20.9-km four-lane double-deck elevated corridor linking Chennai Port with Maduravoyal. The corridor is designed to facilitate smoother movement of cargo vehicles between the port and the national highway network, significantly reducing travel time and congestion on city roads.
Originally launched in 2010, the project was stalled for several years before being revived recently following coordination between central and state authorities.
Under the revised plan, the upper deck will primarily handle container and port-bound traffic, while the lower deck will cater to city traffic, with several entry and exit ramps planned along the route.
Once completed, the elevated corridor is expected to ease congestion in Chennai and ensure faster movement of cargo to and from the port, strengthening logistics efficiency in the region.
