The central government has outlined updated timelines for several major flyovers and elevated corridor projects in Pune, offering clarity on the progress of key infrastructure works aimed at easing the city’s growing traffic congestion.
According to officials, multiple projects under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways have now been assigned revised schedules to accelerate completion. These include critical flyovers along high-traffic junctions and long-pending elevated stretches that are expected to streamline movement across the Pune Metropolitan Region.
Among the major works highlighted are the ongoing elevated corridors on key national highway routes, upgraded underpasses, and new multi-lane flyovers designed to reduce bottlenecks at major intersections. Several packages are currently in advanced stages of construction, with foundational works, girder placements, and structural activities progressing at an increased pace.
Authorities have emphasised that once completed, these projects will significantly reduce travel time for daily commuters and heavy vehicles moving through central Pune, Hinjawadi, Katraj, Yerawada, and other busy corridors. Improved connectivity is also expected to benefit logistics flow to Pune’s industrial hubs and IT parks.
The Centre has directed implementing agencies to maintain strict monitoring, ensure timely availability of materials, and minimise delays caused by utility shifting and land acquisition. Regular progress reviews are also underway to keep each project on track.
With Pune’s traffic volumes rising sharply over the last decade, the enhanced focus on elevated corridors and flyovers is seen as a crucial step toward creating a smoother, safer, and more efficient urban transport network.
