Himachal Pradesh is set for a major push in road infrastructure after the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) approved ₹2,394.5 crore under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for FY 2026-27. The allocation is aimed at accelerating the construction, widening and upgradation of key road corridors across the hill state, with a focus on improving connectivity in remote and strategically important regions.
The sanctioned funds will support a wide range of projects, including the strengthening of state highways, district roads and critical bridge infrastructure. Besides enhancing connectivity between rural areas, tourist destinations and commercial centres, the programme is expected to improve access to border districts and facilitate faster movement of people, goods and emergency services.
Road infrastructure remains the backbone of Himachal Pradesh’s transport network due to its mountainous terrain, making continuous investment in all-weather connectivity a key priority. The latest CRIF allocation is expected to help the state undertake capacity augmentation, improve road safety and enhance the resilience of transport infrastructure against landslides and extreme weather conditions.
The funding forms part of the Centre’s broader effort to strengthen state road networks through the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund, which finances projects that improve regional connectivity, support economic development and enhance last-mile access across the country. With the latest approval, Himachal Pradesh is expected to expedite the execution of several priority road projects during the current financial year.
