The Central Government has released Rs 300 crore for the Palakkad Industrial Smart City Project, a key development under the Kochi–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor. With this, Kerala has become the first state in the country to finalise infrastructure tenders for an industrial smart city under the corridor initiative.
The funds, sanctioned as part of the third installment to the Kerala Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (KICDC), will be utilised to accelerate infrastructure works including internal roads, power distribution, water supply systems, and digital connectivity.
The Palakkad Industrial Smart City is being developed as a state-of-the-art industrial hub designed to attract investments in manufacturing, logistics, and clean technologies. The project aims to create world-class facilities and generate significant employment opportunities in the region, aligning with the Centre’s vision to promote balanced industrial growth across southern India.
Officials stated that Kerala’s proactive approach and early tender finalisation have positioned it as a model for other states implementing similar projects under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP). The initiative is expected to strengthen industrial linkages between Kerala and neighbouring states, enhancing regional competitiveness and supply chain efficiency.
