Finance Commission grants released to Panchayats in Madhya Pradesh Jharkhand Punjab and Mizoram for rural development
Centre releases ₹1,142 crore to Panchayats to strengthen rural infrastructure and services.

The Government of India has released ₹1,142 crore to rural local bodies in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, and Mizoram under the Fifteenth Finance Commission (XV FC) grants, aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and infrastructure.

The funds have been disbursed as part of the Centre’s ongoing effort to empower Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and improve the delivery of essential civic services at the village level.

A significant portion of the allocation falls under tied grants, which are earmarked for critical sectors such as drinking water supply, sanitation, and maintenance of basic infrastructure, ensuring targeted development in priority areas.

The remaining funds include untied grants, giving local bodies greater flexibility to address location-specific needs, including community assets, local infrastructure, and other developmental works.

These financial transfers are intended to enhance the financial autonomy of rural local bodies, enabling them to plan and execute projects more effectively while addressing local challenges.

The move is aligned with the broader objective of promoting decentralised governance and inclusive rural development, ensuring that funds reach the grassroots level for timely implementation of essential services.

Overall, the release of ₹1,142 crore is expected to support improved service delivery, infrastructure development, and better quality of life in rural areas across the four states.
