The Central Government has extended the deadline for the completion of rural road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-I) in the remote Dodra Kwar region of Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh, to March 31, 2027. The extension aims to ensure the timely completion of connectivity projects in the geographically challenging Himalayan region.
The decision follows discussions between Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, focusing on the need to accelerate infrastructure development in the state’s remote areas. Officials noted that road construction in Dodra Kwar has faced delays due to difficult terrain, heavy snowfall, and a limited working season.
With the extended timeline, authorities expect to complete the remaining road works and significantly improve access for local communities. Enhanced connectivity is expected to facilitate transportation, strengthen emergency services, and improve the supply of essential goods in the region.
The initiative forms part of the broader efforts to expand rural infrastructure and ensure all-weather road connectivity to remote habitations, supporting inclusive development in the hill state.
