Central Railway to Cross 100 AC Suburban Trips with New Rake by April-End

Central Railway new AC suburban train rake to increase Mumbai local AC services beyond 100 daily trips
With the addition of a new AC rake, Central Railway will operate over 100 daily air-conditioned suburban train trips by April-end 2026

Mumbai’s Central Railway is set to cross the 100 daily AC suburban train trips mark with the induction of a new air-conditioned local train rake by the end of April 2026, marking a significant upgrade in commuter services.

Currently, Central Railway operates around 94 AC local services daily using seven AC rakes across the CSMT–Kalyan main line and the harbour line (CSMT–Panvel). With the addition of the new rake, the railway plans to introduce approximately 12–14 additional AC services, pushing the total beyond 100 trips.

The new rake is being manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, and is expected to arrive in Mumbai by the last week of April, after which it will be deployed for passenger services.

The expansion comes in response to rising demand for AC travel, especially during the summer months, as commuters increasingly prefer more comfortable travel despite higher fares.

This move is expected to enhance passenger comfort, improve service availability and reduce overcrowding, further strengthening Mumbai’s suburban rail network often referred to as the city’s lifeline.
