Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has reviewed the progress of the Patna Metro Rail project and announced that the metro extension up to Malahi Pakri will be inaugurated on July 2, 2026, marking another milestone in the city’s expanding urban transit network.

Chairing a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister directed officials to accelerate construction activities across all remaining sections of the project while ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards. He stressed that every phase of the metro project should be executed within the stipulated timeline and asked departments to prepare a clear action plan for timely completion.

The Malahi Pakri extension forms part of the Patna Metro’s priority corridor and is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the eastern parts of the city. Once operational, the extension will provide commuters with a faster, safer, and more convenient mode of transport while helping reduce traffic congestion on major roads.

During the review, the Chief Minister also instructed officials to implement a comprehensive traffic management strategy to minimise inconvenience during ongoing construction. He called for a scientific study of Patna’s traffic patterns and directed authorities to prepare an integrated traffic management plan to address the city’s long-term mobility challenges.

Emphasising the importance of construction safety, Choudhary ordered strict compliance with safety protocols at all project sites and directed agencies to undertake simultaneous work at multiple locations to expedite project execution without compromising quality. He also sought regular monitoring of project progress to ensure deadlines are met.

Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of both metro corridors, including Corridor-1 from New ISBT to Akashvani and the ongoing construction from New ISBT to Mithapur via Jaganpura. The review also covered the overall status of the Patna Metro project, which is expected to play a key role in modernising the city’s public transport system and supporting future urban development.
