Bhubaneswar Railway Station Gets Airport-Style Upgrade; Over 1,300 Stations Set for Modernisation

Bhubaneswar Railway Station is undergoing a major transformation with airport-like infrastructure and modern passenger amenities as part of Indian Railways’ large-scale station redevelopment programme.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently reviewed the progress of the upgrade, which is being carried out under the broader Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The initiative aims to significantly enhance passenger experience through modern design, improved connectivity, and upgraded facilities.

The redevelopment of the Bhubaneswar station includes features such as enhanced station access, spacious waiting areas, improved circulation zones, and the installation of lifts and escalators for seamless passenger movement. Plans also include upgraded concourses, better traffic management, and integrated infrastructure designed to match airport-like standards.

The project is part of a much larger national programme under which more than 1,300 railway stations across India are being modernised. The initiative focuses on transforming stations into multi-functional transport hubs with improved passenger amenities, better urban integration, and enhanced commercial potential.

Officials have indicated that the redevelopment effort is aimed not only at improving infrastructure but also at creating a more efficient and comfortable travel experience. The upgraded stations are expected to feature modern facilities such as improved information systems, retail spaces, and better accessibility for passengers.

The large-scale modernisation reflects Indian Railways’ broader strategy to upgrade station infrastructure in line with growing passenger demand and evolving expectations for world-class transit facilities.
