Bengaluru Metro’s Pink Line Elevated Section Likely to Open in May After Safety Trials

Bengaluru Namma Metro Pink Line elevated stretch under construction, safety trials underway, preparing for May 2026 opening
The elevated section of Bengaluru Metro’s Pink Line, spanning 7.5 km between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, is set to open in May 2026 following mandatory RDSO safety trials and CMRS approvals.

The Namma Metro Pink Line is expected to see the opening of its elevated stretch by May 2026, subject to successful completion of mandatory safety trials and regulatory approvals.

The elevated section, spanning around 7.5 km between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, is in the final stages of readiness. Before operations begin, the corridor will undergo rigorous testing by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), which is a compulsory step for all metro systems in India.

These trials are designed to assess critical safety and performance parameters, including braking systems, signalling, train stability, speed performance, and overall system integration. The inspection process is expected to take around two weeks, after which results will be submitted for further approvals.

Following RDSO clearance, the project will require final approval from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) before passenger services can commence, ensuring that the entire system meets operational safety standards.

The Pink Line is a 21.3 km corridor with 18 stations, connecting key parts of Bengaluru. A major portion of the line, approximately 13 km from Dairy Circle to Nagawara, will run underground and is expected to be completed later, with full corridor commissioning targeted by December 2026.
Once operational, the elevated stretch will be opened in phases, providing early relief to commuters along the Bannerghatta Road corridor. The line will also feature important interchange stations such as MG Road, Jayadeva Hospital, and Nagawara, enabling seamless connectivity with existing and upcoming metro corridors.

Train services on the Pink Line are expected to run from early morning to late night, with frequent intervals during peak hours, aligning with the operational pattern of existing metro lines in the city.
This phased launch marks a significant step in expanding Bengaluru’s metro network, with the Pink Line set to play a crucial role in reducing traffic congestion and improving urban mobility once fully operational.
