BEML Unveils India’s First Indigenous 60-Ton Electric Dump Truck

BEML Limited has unveiled the BH60-EV, described as India’s first indigenously designed and developed 60-ton electric dump truck, at its Mysuru Complex. The new electric vehicle has been developed for high-capacity mining and infrastructure applications and expands BEML’s portfolio of electric heavy-duty equipment.

The BH60-EV was virtually launched by Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director, BEML Limited, in the presence of the company’s functional directors, senior officers and employees. Designed and developed at the Mysuru Complex, the truck combines a high payload capacity with an electric powertrain and operator-focused engineering. It produces zero tailpipe emissions during operation.

The truck is equipped with a 1,000 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) powertrain. It has a payload capacity of 54,500 kg, while its overall configuration is designed for demanding mining duty cycles. The electric drivetrain is supported by systems developed for continuous operation in heavy-duty environments.

BEML estimates that the BH60-EV can deliver 40–60% lower operating costs compared with conventional diesel-powered dump trucks. The electric drivetrain eliminates the need for several mechanical systems associated with conventional diesel equipment, while regenerative braking enables recovery of energy during deceleration and downhill operations.

The vehicle has also been designed to deliver substantial reductions in operating emissions. BEML estimates that each BH60-EV could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 130 tonnes annually, depending on operating conditions and duty cycles.

The development of the 60-ton electric truck follows BEML’s introduction of the BH35-2 EV in April 2026. The 35-ton electric dump truck was also developed indigenously at the Mysuru Complex and was designed for heavy-duty mining operations, giving BEML an electric platform across different payload categories.

The BH60-EV forms part of BEML’s wider effort to develop electric mobility solutions for the mining and infrastructure sectors. The company’s Mysuru Truck Division currently manufactures dump trucks ranging from 35-tonne to 100-tonne capacities, in addition to motor graders, water sprinklers and other mining and construction equipment.

The electric truck has been developed with the requirements of demanding mining environments in mind, where vehicles operate under high payloads and repetitive loading, hauling and dumping cycles. Its high-capacity battery and electric powertrain are intended to support these applications while reducing dependence on diesel fuel.

BEML has also been developing charging and supporting infrastructure alongside its electric mining equipment. The company’s approach includes scalable charging solutions aimed at supporting high-utilisation mining operations and reducing downtime associated with vehicle charging.

The BH60-EV’s launch comes as BEML expands its indigenous electric equipment portfolio beyond its earlier 35-ton platform. The company is also developing additional electric dump truck technologies, including the BH150E prototype and BH205E electric dump truck under trials, according to information available from its Mysuru Truck Division.

The introduction of the BH60-EV places a higher-capacity electric dump truck into BEML’s mining equipment portfolio, extending its focus on zero-tailpipe-emission solutions for applications traditionally dominated by diesel-powered heavy equipment. The company said the development reinforces its focus on indigenous engineering and cleaner technologies for mining and infrastructure.
