Amazon Web Services (AWS) has commenced construction of a new data centre in Hyderabad, marking the next phase of expansion of its AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region. The project forms part of Amazon’s previously announced plan to invest more than $21 billion in cloud and AI infrastructure across India between 2026 and 2030, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the country’s digital economy.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, senior state government officials and AWS executives. The new facility will expand AWS’ cloud infrastructure capacity to meet the growing demand for artificial intelligence, machine learning and cloud computing services from enterprises, startups, developers and public sector organisations across India.

AWS said the investment will strengthen its data centre footprint in Hyderabad and Mumbai, enabling customers to access advanced cloud technologies, AI services and custom AI chips with lower latency while supporting India’s data localisation requirements. The expansion is expected to help businesses accelerate digital transformation and scale AI-driven applications more efficiently.

Speaking at the event, Revanth Reddy welcomed AWS’ continued investment in Telangana, stating that the new data centre reinforces Hyderabad’s position as one of India’s leading digital infrastructure hubs. He also encouraged Amazon to further expand its investments in the state as Telangana continues to develop world-class infrastructure for technology and innovation.

According to AWS, the investment is aimed at supporting India’s rapidly growing demand for cloud and AI services while contributing to economic growth, job creation and the development of digital skills. The company said it remains committed to partnering with governments, businesses and startups to build the next generation of digital infrastructure and enable India’s AI-led growth journey.
