Andhra Pradesh Extends Deadline for ₹5,000-Crore Ramayapatnam Port Project

The Andhra Pradesh Government has granted a second extension for the completion of the ₹5,000-crore Ramayapatnam Greenfield Port project in Prakasam district, allowing work to continue until December 30, 2026, without imposing liquidated damages on the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor. The decision was taken after reviewing delays attributed to factors beyond the contractor’s control, including land-related issues, supporting infrastructure requirements and force majeure conditions.

The project is being executed by a joint venture of Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd. (NECL) and Aurobindo Realty & Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. (ARIPL). The original completion date was June 23, 2025, following which the state government had already granted an extension until April 27, 2026. With the latest approval, the revised deadline has now been extended to the end of December 2026.

According to the government order, the proposal for the extension was submitted by the Chief Executive Officer of the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB) after the EPC contractor detailed the challenges affecting project execution. While approving the revised timeline, the state government clarified that the extension would not result in any additional financial liability or compensation beyond the existing contract value.

The Ramayapatnam Port project received a revised administrative sanction of ₹4,923 crore in February 2024 and is being developed as a key greenfield maritime infrastructure project on the state’s coastline. Once operational, the port is expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s cargo-handling capacity, improve logistics connectivity and support industrial and trade growth in the region.

The extension is expected to provide the executing agencies with additional time to complete the remaining civil and marine works while ensuring that the project progresses without contractual disputes. The Ramayapatnam Port forms an integral part of Andhra Pradesh’s strategy to expand its port infrastructure and enhance its position as a major maritime and logistics hub on India’s eastern coast.
