ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) is set to begin work on a massive ₹70,000 crore greenfield steel plant in Andhra Pradesh, marking one of the largest industrial investments in the country.

The project, located near Visakhapatnam, will see construction formally commence around March 23, 2026, expanding the company’s footprint beyond western India into the eastern and southern markets.

In its first phase, the plant will add around 8.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of steel production capacity, with a focus on flat steel products and downstream manufacturing aimed at reducing import dependence.

The Andhra Pradesh government has allocated over 2,200 acres of land for the project and facilitated key infrastructure, including logistics and raw material linkages, to accelerate development.

The facility is expected to be operational by 2028–29, with the broader project nearing completion by 2030, positioning it as a long-term strategic investment in India’s manufacturing ecosystem.

Beyond capacity expansion, the project is set to boost regional industrialisation, generate large-scale employment, and strengthen India’s steel production capabilities, reinforcing the country’s position as a global steel manufacturing hub.
