Aggreko India Manufacturing Private Limited has announced plans to invest nearly ₹400 crore in establishing a major Global Engineering and Manufacturing Centre in Pune, a project expected to generate more than 1,000 direct jobs over the next decade.

The investment proposal was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Maharashtra government and Aggreko India in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai.

According to officials, the new facility will be developed at Phulgaon in Pune district and is expected to become Aggreko’s largest global engineering and manufacturing centre outside Scotland. Construction activities for the project are likely to begin later this year.

Aggreko operates globally in energy solutions, temporary power systems, temperature control technologies, and sustainable industrial infrastructure services. The Pune facility is expected to strengthen the company’s manufacturing, engineering, procurement, and supply chain capabilities for both domestic and international markets.

Officials stated that the investment aligns with Maharashtra’s broader industrial and climate-focused development strategy. The project will focus on sustainable energy systems, advanced engineering technologies, and temperature control solutions designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and support climate resilience across industrial sectors.

During the signing ceremony, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted Pune’s emergence as a major Global Capability Centre (GCC) destination and welcomed Aggreko’s expansion into Maharashtra’s growing advanced manufacturing ecosystem.
The state government has assured support for the project through faster approvals, administrative assistance, infrastructure facilitation, and policy incentives under Maharashtra’s industrial development framework. Officials noted that the project is expected to strengthen local supply chains and create opportunities for MSMEs to integrate with global manufacturing networks.

Pune has increasingly emerged as one of India’s leading engineering, manufacturing, and technology hubs due to its strong industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce availability, automotive manufacturing base, and rapidly expanding GCC presence. Multiple multinational companies have been expanding operations across the Pune region in recent years.
Industry experts believe Aggreko’s investment could significantly strengthen Maharashtra’s position in advanced manufacturing, industrial engineering, and sustainable energy infrastructure. The project is also expected to boost employment generation, technology transfer, and export-oriented industrial capabilities within the region.

The development reflects growing global interest in India’s manufacturing and clean energy ecosystem as companies increasingly diversify engineering and production operations into high-growth industrial markets. Experts noted that investments focused on sustainable infrastructure technologies are likely to play a major role in India’s long-term industrial transformation strategy.
