Adani Defence & Aerospace, the defence arm of the Adani Group, has broken ground on a ₹2,500 crore defence manufacturing project in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, to establish South Asia’s largest private-sector missile manufacturing ecosystem. The project marks a major milestone in strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives.

Spread across over 250 acres, the integrated facility will house a missile manufacturing complex, a composite propellant production unit, and a Trinitrotoluene (TNT) manufacturing complex at a single location. The project will create India’s first fully integrated private-sector ecosystem that combines the production of critical missile materials with missile system integration, significantly enhancing the country’s self-reliance in strategic defence technologies.

The foundation stone was laid in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who described the project as a transformative step for the state’s industrial and defence manufacturing landscape. The facility is expected to position Shivpuri as a major defence production hub while complementing the existing defence manufacturing ecosystem in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor.

According to the company, the project is expected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, while creating substantial business prospects for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by integrating them into the domestic defence supply chain. The investment is also expected to promote advanced manufacturing, technology transfer, and skill development in the region.

Commenting on the development, Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace, said the facility will bring together missile system integration and the production of key materials required for advanced missile systems under one roof, creating an integrated ecosystem that will strengthen India’s defence preparedness. The company stated that the project will support the large-scale production of indigenous missile systems for the Indian Armed Forces while also creating opportunities to serve global export markets.

The new facility further expands Adani Defence & Aerospace’s manufacturing footprint, which already includes ammunition, missile, UAV, aerospace, and defence electronics facilities across India. The investment is expected to reinforce the country’s long-term objective of developing a globally competitive defence manufacturing ecosystem and reducing dependence on imported strategic defence equipment.
